Miles Webber
You could be an… assistant estate manager
Miles Webber is an Assistant Estate Manager for Savills estate agents, working across Devon and Somerset on a number of estates. Since graduating with a REALM degree in 2011 he has passed both his RICS APC and CAAV exams and is a qualified Land Agent.
The 25-year-old, from Somerset, also spent his placement year with Savills, in Oxford, assisting with the farm agency department and also with estate management work. “It was a really useful experience and I think it helps to set Harper Adams graduates apart from others when applying for jobs.”
When Miles returned to university for his final year he was helped by a colleague he met on placement: “For my dissertation I researched the similarities and differences between land markets within countries in the EU and the factors that drove each individual land market. I was aided by a contact within the Savills Rural Research department who I had worked with during my placement year, as well as my tutor. It was interesting to see how different factors influenced farmland markets depending on levels of government legislation and development within countries.”
Miles chose his course because of the broad range of subjects it covered, as well as the university’s facilities and friendly atmosphere, and feels it helped him gain a good graduate job. “The course made me more employable due to the way in which the subjects studied on the curriculum are closely linked to the profession, and through the experience gained whilst on placement.”
“I now, as a Assistant Estate Manager, undertake a broad range of work, including management of let farms, residential and commercial property, shooting and fishing, forestry, developments, etc. Also, I oversee projects and refurbishments on managed estates.”
